 This competition endeavours to encourage creative thinking and knowledge of legal understanding and research  amongst the students.
 It is intended to award students for clarity and novelty of thinking regarding an issue of contemporary relevance.

 The aim of this initiative is,
 
   

    to develop and improve written communication skills and expression of critical thinking in law as a multi      disciplinary subject,
    to raise socio-legal awareness of the students and to highlight the evolving and emerging areas of law in its      interdisciplinary perspective,
    to stimulate young minds to effectively utilise modern information technologies.

 
       
       
   Eligibility  
   

    Contestant must be a full-time law student in any degree college/law school in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh or       Sri  Lanka. The medium of essay must be ENGLISH.
    Students of Post graduate programs not eligible

 
       
       
   Authorship  
   

 No joint entries are allowed.
 All papers must be original, unpublished and undistributed materials. The committee recommends that the  contestants structure the essays with a clear introduction and a conclusion summarizing the main points and the  direction for further exploration. Extensive footnoting and end-noting is discouraged. However, the contestants  should give a select bibliography of the sources referred to in the essay.

 
       
       
   Submission Procedure  
   

 The essay must be typewritten and double spaced on A4 sized white paper with numbered pages.
 The essay must be a maximum of 3000 words [excluding footnotes]

 Submission of essays as e-mail attachments is encouraged.

 The essay must be accompanied by an abstract containing:

    The title of the essay
    A brief synopsis of the essay
    The word count of the essay

 Last Date All essays should reach Manupatra by 30th August 2008. Essays received after this date will not be  considered.

 
       
       
   Selection Procedure  
   

 Essays will be judged on the basis of its content, clarity and originality. The quality of analysis and thoroughness  of  research will be considered in its comprehensiveness.  Other aspects of quality such as coherence, style,  organization,  spelling and grammatical perfection will also be parameters of evaluation.

 The entries will be judged by a committee of leading law academicians, jurists, and law practitioners from across  the  world. The committee is free to determine its own method of analysing and judging the essays and has  absolute  discretion  of selecting the essays. The decision of the committee will be final.

 A cover sheet must accompany the essay and contain the following details:
 Name; Date of Birth; Address, Telephone Nos, Email, Name and Address of college/university, Student  identification  number/ Roll No, Course, Academic Year.

 The name and identity of the contestant must not be mentioned anywhere within the text of the essay.

   Entry Procedure  
   

 Only one entry is allowed per student.
 Joint efforts are not allowed.

 All essays received in the competition become the property of Manupatra Information Solutions P Ltd, which  reserves   the  right to publish the essays in any form - electronic or print.

 The contestants by entering in the contest give Manupatra the right to publicise the winning entries without any  royalty or  compensation.

 The contestants by entering in the contest agree to indemnify Manupatra from and against all claims, suits, and  damages  based on any claim of copyright infringement or plagiarism or unauthorized use.

 Neither Manupatra nor the committee will be responsible for any condition beyond its control that may cause the  contest  to be interrupted.

 
       
       
   Announcement of Winners  
   
 The winners will be intimated through the college authorities. Their names will also be announced in the  corresponding  issue of the “Manupatra Newsline”.
 
       
       
  Internship  
   

Introducing a new category* : Best Essay from each college  [ a college from which atleast 30 entries are received to qualify for this ]

Internship with the best firms is the winning prize

* Internship duration of 4 weeks

As per rules and regulations of the firm

Stipend if paid will be as per the policy of the individual firm

On conclusion of the competition, Manupatra will co-ordinate between the winners and the firms to get the Internship initiated

The best essay from each college category  and the short listed entries from other colleges  (which do not qualify in the above ) will qualify for the final rounds.
